System of Modesty and Chastity in Islam – A Timeless Guide to Islamic Character
System of Modesty and Chastity in Islam by Maulana Mohammad Zafeeruddin is a careful, compassionate, and deeply grounded exploration of two qualities that lie at the very heart of Islamic character — haya (modesty) and iffat (chastity). This book draws upon the Qur’an, Hadith, and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to present not just rules, but a living, breathing framework for how a Muslim carries themselves — in private, in public, and in the presence of Allah.
Why System of Modesty and Chastity in Islam Matters Today
We live in an age that has largely forgotten the meaning of dignity. Boundaries are blurred, modesty is mocked, and many Muslims find themselves searching for a clear, honest answer to a deeply personal question: what does Islam actually say about modesty and chastity — and how do I live it? The System of Modesty and Chastity in Islam answers that question with scholarship, sincerity, and gentleness. As a grounded Islamic morality book, it doesn’t lecture — it illuminates, connecting timeless Qur’anic teachings to the everyday challenges Muslims face right now.

Guidance from the Qur’an
Allah ﷻ speaks directly to this in the Qur’an. Reflect on Surah An-Nur 24:30, where He commands the believers to lower their gaze and guard their purity — a verse that forms the moral backbone of everything this book teaches.
Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts). That is purer for them. Verily, Allâh is All-Aware of what they do. (Quran 24:30)
And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts) and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer palms of hands or one eye or dress like veil, gloves, head-cover, apron, etc.),
and to draw their veils all over Juyûbihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands,
or their fathers, or their husband’s fathers, or their sons, or their husband’s sons, or their brothers or their brother’s sons, or their sister’s sons, or their (Muslim) women (i.e. their sisters in Islâm), or the (female) slaves whom their right hands possess, or old male servants who lack vigour, or small children who have no sense of feminine sex. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And all of you beg Allâh to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful. (Quran 24:31)
